This week’s TWD recipe is a simple lemon loaf cake. As I have earlier mentioned on this website that I am a huge fan of the lemon flavor, perfect for the beautiful spring we are having here in Los Angeles these days.
When I was going through the reviews of fellow bakers on TWD Blog I realized that most of the people found the cake dry and lacking lemon flavor as it uses only the zest in the batter.I still wanted to try the recipe but i have to say that I already have a perfect recipe for a lemon yogurt loaf which I am in love with. I have made it many many times and to be honest I did not want to try another recipe for a lemon loaf. So, I decided to substitute lemons with oranges.
This cake had a similar texture as a pound cake with an additional orange flavor. However, when I pulled the cake out of the oven I did find the cake a little dry from my taste. I had the reviews in mind
so i decided to pour some fresh orange juice over the cake. The juice moisten the cake and added more orange flavor to it. At the end I dusted the cake generously with powdered sugar.
I liked the recipe and can see myself baking it for my friends and family. Maybe next time I will whip up some Orange curd to serve with it. A perfect cake for an elegant tea party.

What a beautiful loaf – I love your blog! And Orange is my next favorite citrus next to lime. I did the juice “brush” at the end and it was well worth it – can’t have too much flavor!
